Let's be honest, sometimes it's not enough to have talent in the current music industry these days, when you consider the influx of aspiring musicians on social networking sites such as  Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace. Add in the changing nature of the recording industry and the push to make money beyond selling records, and natural talent often takes a backseat to flash and DIY marketing techniques. As a creative person, you strive to make meaning in your life through music. Now, in addition to creating and performing, you're finding it necessary to take on business and marketing roles, sometimes without even feeling confident in your knowledge of these areas. Even if you find yourself able to relinquish these responsibilities to a record company or other third party, pressure arises in trying to create music that pleases you and your audience, searching for the balance between being true to yourself and commercial appeal. Expectations about who and how you are come from all directions: family, friends, bandmates, fans, record companies, television and radio, and yourself, often creating conflict and confusion. Alternating between the hectic lifestyle of the road and feeling restless and out of place in between tours can wear on even seasoned vets. Not to mention the instability of the music industry and worrying about being able to make and maintain a living as a professional musician. Whether you're starting out or already established, everything about being a musician can seem overwhelming and stressful, so why even bother?

Because music is your passion and your joy.
Because you can't imagine yourself on any other career path.
Because you want to be able to make a life out of what you love.
Because you need to create to feel complete and alive.
Because being a musician is who you are.
